The idea io not altogether a new one, but ha3 been ingeniously adapted, and with a great deal of labor to a rhymiug catalogue of names, not making the smoothest ot Terse or making very musical poetry, but a pleasant jingle attractive to chu dren, and imparting information not so pleasantly otherwise attained We might ask a more correct or thography for some of the Indian names of this section. Thk Templetox Opera Company We are happy in the thought, that, having seen and heard this fine company, we have no qualifi cation to mingle the commendation cur experience enables us to give. It is as nearly perfect in all its feat ures as any we have ever had here. It is scarcely goiug beyond the truth to sa' that it is unequalled. And we are glad to be able to make this admission; for justico to the public had made U3 resolve to give no farther indulgence to inferiority, and but scant tolerance to medioc rity. ( We can afford little space to a notice of the Monday night's per formance of the Mikado, because time will have elapsed, and another fine performance will have weak ened the impression of its prede cessor. It was good; it was admir able. Poo-bah was never so much a reality in the hands of Mr. Doug lass Flint, and the Great Ko Ko, in xMr. Alf C. Wheelan, had a verisimilitude that was wonderful. The facial facility, the bodily agility, the spontaneous humor, the life and yivacity of the impersonation made the executioner the very fountain of roaring fun rather than the source of terror as his office might inspire. Yum -Yum, in Miss Blanche Chap man, was the very ideal of a swest : heart, and her earnest innocent love matin- might find many apt and winning scholars. Tht-re was a wonderful wealth of good rich voices, and we must en- danger our character for gallantry when we give the palm to the gen tlemen, not to the ladies for the pos session af the best. The ladies had good voices, the gentlemen remarkable ones. The mise tn scene of the Mikado was strikingly picturesque, novel and brilliant, and the general char acteristics of the antipodean people were wonderfully well maintained. The Mascotte la it night was en joyed by an audience quite as large as the one that attended the Mifcado performance the night before. This sprightly, piquant, somewhat "lib eral" piece had full appreciation for tha vivaci'y of its presentation, though it is fair to say that there was not a universal agreement upon the merits of the plav. But all unite in giving their just dues to the accomplished players MOM Especial Attention Is invited to the latge array of popular remedies fo bo found at I'elhani's Phar macy, near the post ofliee. It is a rule with this house to keep any thing that is wanted in the drug line, provided it ha3 any merits. We sdyise our frit nds in the country that when in want of any medicines to try Felhatn's Drug Store. Min neapolis and Omaha Railway land case, and tl'.-n formally resigned bin office. Marie Prescott. Never in the hislory of Asheville, ha lover's of the classic drama had an opportunit3' of seeing a more clever actress than Marie Prescott, and it is to be hoped she will be ap preciated by au audience that will pack the Opera Hall. The following complimentary notice of this attraction is taken from the Birmingham Age : There was not one of the five acts of the thrilling drama that was not rendered replete with fine effects by the easy efforts of the clever couple. Miss Prescott's Farthenia is .truly a charming impersonation. Her queenly carriage, her sweet voice, always thrilling with the full effect of the motive of every situation, her many graces of accent and self poise established her a welcome from the moment the stage wa3 hon ored with her presence. She seem ed fit ia person and feature to inter pret every noble expression of a play, full of fine sentiment and ro trantic situations. It is happy for her, too, she has so excellent a leading support as is given by Mr. McLean. An actr among the youngest on the stage, he is possessed of unmistakable tal ents, has notably superior physique, and goes at his work in a way that denotes a rare degree of intelligent perceptioH of what is required of him. Miss Prescott's presence was greet ed with unstinted appl iuse when ever Bhe appeared, and the honors of approval were almost as Jiberil!y bestowed upon Mr. McLean. A comparison of the tobacco mar ket this season so far as compared with the same periodj last year, shows not only largely increased receipts but much higher averages in price 14 this year as against 2.72 la6t October. We look for still higher average as the season goes on. The best quality has not been brought to market, nor have the prices settled upon a baBis predi cated upon correct knowledge of the wants of the market. We be lieve the demand wili be strong, and also that the development will be made that the supply of fine grades will prove to be below the average, cousequently prices will advance.
